Release Date: 12/18/2007MedAppz Becomes Florida SHOTS Certified Software Provider
Alliance between electronic healthcare records leader and state agency makes it easy for physicians to upload patient immunization information to statewide system with just one click.
MedAppz, the leader in web-based electronic health record (EHR) applications, today announced that MedAppz iSuite 3.5 CCHIT Certified (SM) Ambulatory EHR 2007 software now has a direct interface to the Florida State Health Online Tracking System (SHOTS) system.
The SHOTS system, a program of the Florida Department of Health, Provides a central repository of childhood and adolescent immunization information that helps doctors, schools, and parents keep track of immunization records.
The MedAppz iSuite 3.5 CCHIT Certified (SM) Ambulatory EHR 2007 software interface simplifies record keeping for the many Florida physicians who use MedAppz software. "It saves me a ton of time," says Dr. Tina Caroll-Scott of the South Miami Children's Clinic Inc. "Instead of having to enter patient immunization twice--once into MedAppz iSuite electronic health record, and again into the SHOTS system--today, the minute I sign my clinical encounter in MedAppz, my patient immunization information is automatically sent to the Florida Department of Health."
"We are excited that MedAppz has worked with us to create this new functionality," says Susan Lincicome, Director, Florida SHOTS. "Their partnership helps ensure the success of our data upload service to make this time-saving feature possible for more and more health-care providers."
Registries are only helpful if health-care providers use them, and since currently, 22 immunizations are recommended for infants in the first 18 months, participation in the SHOTS registry can be a time-intensive task without the sort of technology available in MedAppz iSuite 3.5.
Total records in Florida's registry now exceed 64 million shots for more than 5.4 million individual patients. Ultimately, Florida SHOTS' goal, as part of the Centers for Disease Control's (CDC) Healthy People 2010 initiative, is to increase to 95 percent the number of children age 0 to 6 with at least two shot records in a fully functional immunization registry by the year 2010.
The Florida SHOTS system has gained wide acceptance throughout the state and has earned endorsements from the Florida Pediatric Society, Florida Medical Association, Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, and Florida Association of Health Plans.
