SOUTH MIAMI CHILDREN'S CLINIC CHOOSES MEDAPPZ

New clinic providing care to 1,000+ medically underserved children will offer range of services, and needs to create and manage records in streamlined, efficient manner

WICHITA, KANSAS - March 29th, 2007 - MedAppz, the leader in web-based electronic health record (EHR) applications, announced today that South Miami Children's Clinic has chosen to standardize on MedAppz iSuite technology.

"We chose MedAppz ultimately because we think it will help us improve patient care," said Dr. Tina Scott, medical director of the clinic.  "Because MedAppz iSuite is simple to learn and use, it will be easy for our physicians to begin using immediately; and because the MedAppz platform stores and manages complex records documenting multiple visits, it will reduce our risk of medical errors."

The clinic will include three exam rooms, a lab, a waiting and reception area.  Although Dr. Scott will be the only full-time employee, the clinic will be staffed by volunteer physicians from South Miami Hospital and its sister hospitals from Baptist Health South Florida.  Physician specialties will include obstetrics and gynecology, optometry, cardiology, gastroenterology and pulmonology among others.   Medical students from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine will eventually be rotating through the clinic as part of their training, under the supervision of UM faculty physicians.  It is anticipated that nursing students from the University of Miami will also be involved with the clinic as part of their educational process.

Located adjacent to the South Miami Community Center, the South Miami Children's Clinic will serve children in the South Miami area who are completely uninsured and come from a home where the household income is no more than 200 percent above federal poverty levels.  Funding for the clinic will come from the Jim and Susan Carr foundation; Wayne Brackin, CEO of South Miami Hospital; the Lennar foundation; and Cardinal Health.  Support has also come from the City of South Miami which will lease the building to the clinic for $1 a year.

MedAppz in recent months has assumed a leadership role providing technology to clinics serving medically underserved communities.  Besides the South Miami Children's relationship, MedAppz is now working with a number of clinics in hurricane zones throughout the South, and its technology has been chosen by the Nurse Practitioner program at Florida A&M.  MedAppz also has partnership with the Interamerican College of Physicians and Surgeons (ICPS), which has a significant presence in Hispanic communities.
